Reporter’s Diary: Senior cops’ gestures of unity warm hearts of subordinates

Hence, it came as a surprise as photos officers in DIG, SP and DSP ranks serving lunch to subordinate personnel did the rounds. While there was no official communication about the event, sources said that such lunch programmes have been initiated by the city police officials to strengthen the rapport between higher officials and their subordinates. 

An officer attached to Tambaram range said that the Joint Commissioner, who served them lunch at an event, took the time to enquire about his health, family, children’s education and how far they travel to get to work etc. Similarly, in one such lunch programme organised on Independence Day, another Joint Commissioner instructed the personnel to work in unison, serve the people and stay away from bad habits for the welfare of their families.

While most policemen feel overwhelmed with this gesture from their senior IPS officers, some felt that their grievances should also be heard in a similar spirit.
