‘I have taken innovative steps to improve my business’
I was born and brought up in Chennai. My father had been running a tea stall on GA Road in Old Washermenpet since 1965. After I completed my school, he wanted me to take over the business.

I was 19 years old when I took over the shop and it has been 28 years since then. I have two daughters; the elder one is in her second year of college and my younger daughter is studying in Class 12. My day invariably starts at 7 am and I spend almost 15 hours in the shop every day. Over the years, I have taken new initiatives to improve my business, which is welcomed by the customers, especially youth. I introduced snacks and chat items like pani puri, sandwiches, beverages, etc. Customer satisfaction is my business motto because that alone can draw regular customers and bring in more people by word of mouth. Business can become sustainable with steady profits only if we initiate measures that customers like. I can improve my business only when I am present at the shop as the place is a commercial hub with many eateries cropping up, posing a tough competition. A few months ago, there was a slight fall in the business and adding to the woes, it was difficult to find workers. Due to staff crunch, I have to spend long hours at the shop. Hence, it reduces the time I get to spend with my family.
