Slice Of Life: ‘I want to be a farmer because I think future is in farming’
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
Naveen Kumar (27), Cab driver
I am a Computer Science graduate. But I am driving cabs on a temporary basis now because I could not land a job I like. I wanted to support my family financially so I started driving cab for private cab aggregators. I am also interested in farming. I stay with my family and I am born and brought up in Chennai. I bought my own car so that I don’t have an issue of achieving a minimum target for the car owners daily. I start my day as early as 7 am and get back home at 8 pm. I want to do farming and I have also gained experience for the same. I have worked for an agro-processing company for some time to understand the nature of the work. If I want, I can still get a job but I think the future is in farming. I am trying to learn more about the distribution and supply of vegetables so that I can use my knowledge and start my own business. I get about 2,000 per day and I am happy with that. I know that farming requires a lot of funds and hard work so I am trying to save money and find like-minded individuals who can work along with me. I am sure that I will be able to bring my plans to reality.
