    M Rahul (18), AC mechanic

    Chennai

I hail from Rameswaram and my parents came to Chennai nearly 20 years ago. My father came in search of employment to the city and settled here. I went to school till Class 10. Then, I failed in one of the subjects and discontinued my education. I stay with my father, mother and my elder sister. My father wanted me to study further but I was not interested. So, I joined a technical Institute and learnt how to repair various electrical appliances. Now, I work as an AC mechanic and also work part-time at a departmental store. I earn at least Rs 2,000 per day and support my family financially. My father works in a shoe shop and my mother is a homemaker. In future, I want to open a shop for service and repair of electrical appliances. Though I did not study much, I am able to earn my living and have supported my family. In Chennai, the life is quite different and fast paced compared to Rameswaram because of which even those who didn’t study much can find at least some employment and earn money.”
