Citizen Connect: Under their nose- Haphazard parking, road block go unattended near Avadi Corporation office

Roads, garbage collection and drainage system remain in shambles even in the headquarters, pointed out residents, alleging that officials have even turned a blind eye on the encroachments right next to their office. The TNHB Main Road, also called 60 Feet Road, is chock-a-block right at the entrance due to overcrowded tea shops that extend way beyond the pavement onto the road on one side. The haphazard parking of trucks and vans on the other side of the road has made matters worse.

“The tea shops are the major reason for the traffic congestion at the junction, as the customers park their two-wheelers one behind another, blocking the road due to the shortage of space. These shops are located at the complex where ATMs, banks and commercial establishments like jewelleries are functioning. It is posing a threat to the bank customers, as miscreants are on the prowl in the locality,” said Kuberan, resident of TNHB Road.

Though the road is wide where it joins State Highway 55, residents complain that the authorities have let the centre portion of the road for rent to run shops. “The rear side of the shops are also being used as a parking lot by vans and trucks, which also blocks the road for vehicles. The authorities could at least build a roundtana to streamline the vehicle movement,” said another resident.

K Murali of Kamarajar Main road complained that though dengue cases is reportedly on the rise in Avadi, the authorities have not made any attempt to clear the garbage dumped on the road. “Officials visit the house to check if we maintain it properly to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. But they turn a blind eye on the garbage on the road,” he said. The officials concerned were not available for a comment.
