Residents say that the debris covers a large part of the road and obstructs commute. “It is difficult to walk with all the leaves and twigs of the fallen branches poking out. Over a period of time, the debris has spread across to the entire street,” said Vijaya Kumar, a resident of the locality. “Even earlier, the debris from construction and other works was discarded on the street and not removed by the civic authorities,” he added.

The residents claim that there is a primary school in the vicinity and many school children are likely to trip or get injured owing to thedebris scattered all over the street. Motorists also complain that blocks of concrete and other debris has made it difficult to ride through the road.

“I have raised complaints with the regional civic body workers and two weeks later, only a part of the debris was cleared. Some of the waste and debris was pushed to one side of the road, but over time, it has again spread all over the street. The civic authorities should act on our complaints and clear the area soon,” says resident S Jayanthi.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said, “The conservancy workers cannot choose to not clear a part of the waste just because it consists of construction material. We expect the civic authorities to co-operate and clearthe area soon.”

Meanwhile, Corporation staff claimed that the residents leave trash on the roads such as branches after pruning trees and even construction materials on the street.

When contacted, zonal officials said that the conservancy staff members would be intimated with the issue and the debris would becleared shortly.
