Bypoll victory mends fences between AIADMK and PT

During the bypoll campaign, Puthiya Thamizhagam had even complained to the Election Commission against the AIADMK for misusing its party flag. But just only a month since the ruling party won the bypolls, two senior AIADMK ministers – SP Velumani and P Thangamani – were seen inaugurating a school run by Puthiya Thamizhagam president Dr K Krishnasamy at Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore, highlighting the renewed bonhomie.

Krishnasamy, who accused the ruling of not fulfilling its promise of naming the six sub-sects as Devendrakula Vellalars, invited two senior leaders in the Western districts to inaugurate his school. With the AIADMK winning the bypolls, PT seems to have realised that it may lose political leverage if it quits the AIADMK-led alliance, and has immediately attempted to rebuild its ties with the ruling party.

This works well for the AIADMK, too. As the party is now ready to make compromises to keep the alliance together till the 2021 State polls, the ministers attending PT leader’s function is seen as a step in that direction.

AIADMK insiders say the party emerging victorious in the two Assembly constituencies indicates that the people have reposed their faith in the ruling party, adding that the turnaround by PT is a pointer on the stability of the alliance for the coming polls.
