Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
B Srinivasulu (22), Clerk
After my parents got married, they came to Chennai and settled down here from Tirupati in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Other than them, my family comprises a sister as well, and all of us stay in a rented house. I work as a clerk in a private company. We have been planning to construct our own house but due to financial constraints, we are still staying in a rented house. Though I am interested in films, I did not know what to study in order to get into the field. So I studied B Com in a private college without knowing about the scope of the subject. I did not have anybody to guide me about my future and hence, I am very confused about what to do in future. Due to lack of adequate qualification, I could not find other jobs when I went hunting for a job. Life in Chennai had been very difficult and challenging due to lack of opportunities. I wish I could get into the film field and earn more money so that we will be able to own a house in future. I am trying to fulfil my parents’ dreams and want to take all the responsibilities to construct our own house. I do not want to put the burden on my parents. I also want to help my sister to continue her studies. For all this, I have to first find a better job to support my family financially and then fulfil my parents wish before pursuing my passion.
