The MES Road in East Tambaram is one of the most important roads in the locality. The two-kilometre stretch has four private schools, a sub-register office, a telephone exchange, a community hall, and a temple and a church. According to sources, every day thousands of the vehicles pass the stretch.

Since there are four private schools, every day in the morning and the evening the road is packed with students and school vans and buses. Residents and regular commuters say that a few months ago the electricity board dug up the road in several places to place underground cables. But, the work has not been completed yet and hence, the road is yet to be levelled and repaired.

During Christmas and New Year, people thronged the church and with dug up roads, commuting was a big hassle. The area also does not have proper street lights. It is difficult for motorists to manoeuvre at night with low light on a poor road.

Speaking about this, ex-Councillor Jothi Kumar said, “We have submitted several petitions and requested officials to replace the lights and repair the road, but the officials did not even bother to give us a proper response,” he said.

Tambaram Municipal Commissioner Karupaiah Raja said, “We have asked the electricity board to complete the work soon. Only then can we level the road.”
