Slice of Life: ‘I am proud of my hometown and happy to do business here’

My native is Rajasthan and I sell jewellery in Chennai. All the items that I sell are made in my hometown, which is very close to the desert. When people ask me where I am from, I am proud to say that I am from Rajasthan.
In the State that I come from, it is both very hot and cold. Unlike here, where it is hot throughout the year, Rajasthan gets extremely cold during nights. Chennai is a nice city besides the fact that traders here do not let us display our products near or inside their shops.
The police have also begun to chase us away, especially after they built that new walkway. I moved here with my entire family a month ago. But we have been doing this business for many years. I do not remember when I started. The business had become dull over the years. We do business in New Delhi and Chennai. In comparison, we get more customers in New Delhi.
However, it was not like that before. We used to get equal customers in both cities. I do miss my hometown a lot, especially my friends. I call them regularly and tell them about the things I am doing here in the city. I had gone to the Marina beach a couple of weeks ago to sell my products. There was some festival going on. The beach was really lovely and I talked to all my friends about it.
