Karthik D (27), Florist
I used to be a cook in the area. But then the shop closed and moved further away when the owner moved. So I was left looking for jobs for around a year, with nothing to do. Later on, I began working as a florist. I wasn’t sure what to do initially, but then I got training. The flowers are expensive and need to be dealt with properly to ensure there is no wastage. You need to handle them delicately as well. It is relaxing to arrange flowers. When I am worried, just making a bouquet can be very calming. It’s nice that I have a job that relaxes me instead of stressing me, I suppose. Sometimes, people will ask for a special bouquet. I always make sure it looks very nice because I know it is going to be gifted to someone. It might take a bit longer, but they are always willing to wait and are happy. We get a lot of requests for Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day. Aside from that, some people hosting events will ask for an arrangement for the guests. I have regular customers. Just lately, we’ve seen a fall in customers. Not many people have money to spend anymore, so I suppose that’s why.
