Siblings help seniors pick up digital skills

The pandemic has taken a toll on every one of us, but it’s probably hit the senior citizen population the hardest. Siblings Shreya and Surbhi Bajaj noticed that in their own family, how seniors, even though they had the latest smartphones, were finding it hard to use technology.

They realised that many adults and senior citizens were finding it hard to use many apps on the phone. The sisters then launched a platform called Easy Hai, where they teach seniors all-round digital skills. “This sudden and immediate yet almost full transfer to the virtual space for even necessities like ordering our day-to-day groceries online has proven to be a massive challenge for most seniors. Many were finding it tough to keep up with the sudden shift to technology. Initially, we wanted to support our family members to be safe and wise during COVID times —by teaching how to order groceries online or help in transitioning to a cashless system to pay for utilities. But after a point, more people started reaching out to us - we realised that this was a more prevalent problem on a much larger scale, particularly associated with the elderly, as they needed more patience, guidance, and assistance. That’s how we launched the platform, Easy Hai,” says Shreya Bajaj.

Through Zoom classes, the duo teaches how to use various apps and how it helps to make life easier. “Though seniors are aware of the new technology and apps, some are scared to use it and some find it hard to adapt to the changes. After interacting with seniors, I was surprised to hear their doubts. Easy Hai boosts digital literacy through its unique and simple tutorials via an interactive Zoom call, where each session is divided into teaching, step by step demonstration, practical learning and problem solving. We also customise classes if anyone wantes to learn any specific app or tool,” she adds.
