Woman rag picker gangraped, murdered

Vijayalakshmi, who used to collect and sell waste plastics, used to sleep under the Vandalur bridge. On Thursday night, Vijayalakshmi was raped by three unidentified men when she was sleeping under the bridge. 

On Friday morning, passers-by noticed her lying unconscious and informed the Vandalur Otteri police station in Kancheepuram. The woman was admitted to Chromepet GH under intensive care but died without responding for treatments on Friday night. 

Vandalur Otteri police have registered a case and search is on to nab the three. Police maintained that the suspicion of gangrape could be confirmed only  after receiving the post-mortem examination report.

Earlier this week, a woman returning home with her husband was gangraped at Gumudipoondi.
