Conference on brackish water aquaculture to be held on Jan 23-25
The Central Institute of Brackish Water Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) and Society of Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries (SCAFI) are jointly organizing the international conference on brackish water aquaculture (BRAQCON 2019) from January 23 to 25 in the city. As a prelude to the conference, a National Farmers’ Conclave is scheduled on 22 January 2019.

According to Dr K K Vijayan Director ICAR-CIBA and Convener, BRAQCON 2019, the conference envisages to provide a unique platform for an august gathering of people involved in the innovative activities of brackish water aquaculture and fisheries, nationally and internationally.
BRAQCON 2019 is also an attempt to foster cooperation between concerned governmental, non-governmental institutions, private sector and farmers for advancement of sustainable aquaculture and fisheries in brackish water ecosystems, he said.
“Sharing of experience and research advancements in the frontier areas would facilitate maximum utilization, cultivation, conservation and development of aquatic resources,” he said.
‘Aquaculture farmers’ conclave’ would focus on ground level issues faced by brackish water aquaculture farmers.
The session on brackish water aquaculture start-up is intended to provide fillip to young minds who dream to venture into aquaculture and allied sectors as entrepreneurs. Ideas, innovations and technologies developed by research and development labs with potential for commercialisation will be presented and deliberated during this session. Agricultural Business Incubator (ABI) of ICAR would be able to hand-hold and help the new entrepreneurs, he said.
