Welder wears burqa, tries to rob ATM
Velachery police thwarted an ATM robbery by arresting a man who was waiting outside the kiosk wearing a burqa and a cutter in his hand in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Police on night patrol noticed a burqa-clad woman wearing a helmet and waiting outside an ATM kiosk on Velachery bypass road around 2 am. As it was so late in the day, they grew suspicion and approached the person to inquire. However, noticing the police approaching, the ‘woman’ fled the spot on a two-wheeler.
Police chased and secured the person only to find out that it was a man wearing the burqa. They also found a cutter in his possession.
Inquiries revealed that the man, identified as R Rajkumar (24), a welder from Velachery, was standing there for an opportune moment to rob the ATM.
Police said Rajkumar was in need of money and hatched the plan to rob an ATM. He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
