Keep pets indoor to protect them from noise
There are a large number of public service advertisements on ill effects of crackers on animals being issued almost every year. But a large number of birds, pets and stray animals still suffer from deafness, burns and even die during the festival season.

“The incidents of burns and other injuries among animals is common during Deepavali every year. Animals try to find a corner or some dark place to hide and avoid noisy places. Some also lose bladder control and might even start shivering and drooling,” said Sai Vignesh, founder of Almighty Animal Care Trust.
The loud noise can not only affect them physically but even psychologically, say experts, adding that pets are likely to reject food and even become aggressive during this time.
“Animals, especially dogs and cats, have a very strong sense of hearing and smell. This can lead to aggressive behaviour as it alerts their brain too much. It can also affect their appetite, cause vomiting and nervousness. Keep the pets inside the house and close the doors and windows,” said Dr P Dhanapalan, Chief Veterinary Officer, Blue Cross India.
Veterinarians also suggest that sedatives can be given to cats and dogs to avoid such behaviour. It would help the animals stay less alert and tame their response to loud noise.
