The police, on Thursday, arrested a 49-year-old man who posed as a policeman to collect money from people by promising to get work done at government offices. A scrap dealer helped the Tirumullaivoyal police arrest the accused after he noticed that the walkie-talkie he carried was fake.

The police seized a set of police uniform along with a belt, an identity card and a toy walkie-talkie from the suspect, identified as V Jayaprakash from TVK Nagar. He has been working as a broker to rental houses, plots and vehicles.
The police said that Jayaprakash went to Ramachandran’s scrap shop on Wednesday evening to demand mamool claiming that he was from the Thirumullaivoyal police station. The trader gave Jayaprakash money, but he also noticed that the walkie talkie, the ‘policeman’ carried was comparatively small and did not make any static noise. Ramachandran, suspicious over the identity of the policeman, informed the Thirumullaivoyal police.
Though Jayaprakash had left the shop, Ramachandran had his image on the mobile phone and he gave the picture to the police team. The police said that nabbed Jayaprakash with the help of the image when he was having tea at a shop at Ayapakkam on Thursday morning. The police noted that he used to visit government offices and get things done claiming to be a policeman.
