Fire at construction firm in T Nagar, none injured
A major fire broke out in the construction firm of industrialist Sekar Reddy in T Nagar on Tuesday morning.
Chennai
Sekar Reddy, who was in the news in December 2016 after Income Tax sleuths raided his premises and seized huge quantities of gold and cash, said in a press statement that only some furniture was damaged. Though no one was injured in the accident, it took at least 2 hours for 60 fire and rescue personnel and about six fire tenders to bring the fire under control. Security guards of the firm located on Vijayaraghava Road noticed smoke emanating from the fourth floor of the building around 7.45 am and alerted the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services’ control room.
Immediately, fire tenders from Teynampet and other nearby stations rushed to the spot around 8.15 am. A hydraulic fire tender was also rushed to the spot and three Metro Water lorries were roped in to fetch water. As many as 60 fire personnel struggled for about two hours to bring the fire under control around 10.30 am. While a thick blanket of smoke covered the entire area, traffic came to a standstill in the busy T Nagar in the peak traffic hours. Fire officer Mohammed Shah said that the smoke was trapped inside the building as it had glass walls. This made it difficult for the firefighters to enter the premises.
Meanwhile, Sekar Reddy has issued a statement claiming that no one was hurt in the accident and there was no major loss to property, except a few furniture. While he said he suspected a short circuit to have caused the fire, the Mambalam police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
