Scolded by teacher, Class 10 boy commits suicide
A Class 10 student committed suicide at his residence near Oragadam on Monday after he was allegedly scolded by his teacher for not bringing his record note.

The deceased was identified as M Manimaran (15) from Vadakupet village near Oragadam and was studying in the Vadakupet Government Higher Secondary School. Police said that on Monday, Manimaran had gone to school without his science record note. His teacher Sumathi questioned him and scolded Manimaran in front of the whole class. Sources said that Manimaran failed to take the record note to school for the second time too. Following that, Manimaran had informed his teacher that he would go home and bring the record note and she allowed him to go home at around 10 am.
According to police, Manimaran’s grandmother who is working as a housekeeping staff in the same school noticed Manimaran did not return for a long time. She went to the house and found the door was locked from inside and received no response after repeated knocks. She informed his parents, and with the help of neighbours, broke open the door. They found Manimaran hanging from the ceiling with in a nylon rope.
The Oragadam police team, who rushed to the spot, retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Meanwhile, the villagers and relatives gathered at the school and protested against the teacher. The Oragadam police pacified them by promising action against the teacher. The District Educational Officer said the inquiry is on and action will be taken soon.
