Tripura youth held in city for kidnapping minor
Tripura police arrested a youth from Chennai who has been accused of kidnapping a minor girl and murdering her grandfather, Dulal Mia, who had tried to prevent the abduction drive on March 2 at Indiranagar area of Melaghar in Sepahijala district.

Police, however, was also able to rescue the girl who was allegedly married by the accused Rajib Hossain forcefully.
Rajib was engaged in fruit juice selling in Chennai and was living with the girl in rented accommodation. Rajib and three others were charged for kidnapping the girl from her house when she was alone. Two of her grandfathers, Dulal Mia and Ebadul Islam, who were in the mosque and listening to her shouting came on the road and found them forcefully pushing her into a car.
Both the grandfathers who stood in front of the vehicle, was allegedly hit by Rajib who drove the car on them. Mia had died on the spot and his brother Islam injured seriously. The accused had managed to escape with the girl to Chennai. However, despite repeated persuasions, no action was taken by police to rescue the victim or arrest the accused persons.
However, police said with the help of their Chennai counterpart, Rajib was arrested from outskirts of the city. Based on his statement, police later rescued the girl who became the wife of Rajib. Police also recorded the statement of the girl and produced them to a local court seeking their transit remand.
