    Two of 3 friends feared drowned in Besant Nagar

    Two teens were feared drowned while another youth was rescued as they were sucked in by a giant wave while swimming in the sea off Besant Nagar.

    The missing boys have been identified as Sarveshwaran (18) and Aakash (18), while Logehswaran, who was rescued, is undergoing treatment at Government Royapettah Hospital. A group of eight friends, all students of an ITI in Kodambakkam and hailing from different parts of the city, went to Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar around 11 am on Monday. While swimming in the sea, despite the ban to enter the waters, three of them were sucked in by a giant wave. Panicked friends searched for them and alerted the Shastri Nagar police around 3 pm.


    The police acted in a swift manner and rescued Logeshwaran with the help of a fisherman Kani Murugan. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and transferred to GRH for further treatment. Based on a complaint by one Suresh of Iyyapanthangal, one of the eight students, the Shastri Nagar police have registered a case and have launched a rescue operation to trace the missing teenagers.


    Girl drowns in lake


    A 13-year-old girl drowned in a lake near Acharapakkam on Sunday. The deceased was identified as M Sabitha from Vedemanapakkam village near Acharapakkam and a Class 8 student of a private school in the locality. On Sunday afternoon, Sabitha had gone to a farm with her parents and went missing while bathing in the lake along with three friends. The parents, along with the villagers, searched for her and retrieved her body around 8 pm.
