1.5 MW rooftop solar plants on govt buildings soon
Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) has floated a tender for the supply, installation, and commissioning of 1.5 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar power projects to be installed on various government buildings in the State.

According to the TEDA’s bid document, the rooftop solar plants would be installed on government buildings, including Tamil Nadu Warehousing Corporation, VOC Port Trust, PeriyarUniversity and Transport Department.
The tender states that interested bidders should use a domestically manufactured solar cell only if they have been manufactured in India using undiffusedsilicon wafer (black wafer) classifiable.
According to TEDA, the prospective bidder should have had prior installation experience of grid-tied solar systems for a cumulative capacity of at least 150 kW in the last three years. The prospective bidders should have a minimum turnover of Rs 10 million in the last three financial years to be eligible to participate in this tender.
Interestingly, TEDA has signed an agreement with the State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) to facilitate setting up of rooftop solar plants on the government buildings in the State. “The State government plans to set up 50 MW of rooftop solar plants on various government buildings across the State,” a senior TEDA official said.
In February this year, TEDA released Solar Energy Policy, 2019, which revised State’s solar power installation target to 9000 MW by 2023 between utility-scale and distributed generation projects. Of this, the state has targeted 40 per cent (3600 MW) of installations to come from the consumercategory (residential rooftop and small-scale solarinstallations).
