Govt extends Perarivalan’s parole period
The Tamil Nadu government has extended by a month the parole of A G Perarivalan alias Arivu, one of the seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The parole (ordinary leave) was extended by the State Home department on Thursday night following a request made by his mother Arputhammal in view of the health conditionof her husband.
Perarivalan was earlier granted parole for a month and released from the Vellore Central Prison on November 12, and it ended on Friday, following which it as extended by another month. The parole was extended with a condition that he should appear at the nearest police station and sign every day.
His leave was granted by the prison department in accordance with the Tamil Nadu Suspension of Sentence Rules, 1982 following a plea from the convict. In August 2017, Perarivalan was granted a similar leave, his first since 1991 in connection with the medical treatment to his father.
