    MTC bus runs over woman, five-year-old daughter

    A 27-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter were run over by an MTC bus in Kilkattalai on Sunday, while her younger son escaped miraculously.

    The deceased were identified as A Sudha of Tirusulam and her daughter Shivani. Her two-year-old son Deepak escaped with minor injuries, police said.


    The accident happened when they were on their way to Sudha’s maternal house in Kovilamabkkam on a two-wheeler. While they were riding on Medavakkam main road at Echangadu near Kilkattalai, the two-wheeler was rammed by an MTC bus (route No V51 plying between Tambaram and T Nagar).


    As they fell on the road, they were run over by the bus, killing both the woman and her daughter on the spot. According to police, Deepak survived with only minor injuries as he fell on the other side of the road.


    On information, St Thomas Mount police retrieved their bodies and sent them to government hospital for post-mortem examination. A case was registered and the driver of the MTC bus, Thangaiyah, was detained for inquiry.


    Woman killed as bus rams two-wheeler

    A 43-year-old woman died in a road accident on Saturday after a private bus rammed the two-wheeler she was travelling on with her husband. Police said Senthilvel (47) and his wife Perundevi (45) of Thenneri Agaram in Walajabad were travelling on a two-wheeler to meet their son in Sriperumbudur on Saturday evening when the accident happened. When they were on the Chengalpattu-Sriperumbudur road at Oragadam around 7 pm, a bus ferrying staff of a private company rammed the two-wheeler from behind, said a police officer. In the impact, the couple were thrown away and Perundevi, who sustained head injuries, died on the spot. The passers-by rushed Senthilvel to the Kancheepuram government hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Oragadam police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
