On Friday morning, the police had found the vehicle abandoned near Korukkupet. After detaining Ambrose’s wife Rani Mary for interrogation, police found Rs 32 lakh from the house. The team then traced Ambrose to his hometown in Mannargudi based on the information she provided. Sources said they recovered the remaining Rs 20 lakh from him.
Ambrose was brought to the city on Saturday and further inquiry is on.
The incident happened on Thursday evening after the vehicle of CMS Systems started from Teynampet with Rs 87 lakh. After replenishing five ATMs on the way, the three-member crew reached Vijaya Bank. When the crew were busy refilling the cash in the ATM, Ambrose drove away the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Saidapet police arrested a 50-year-old man who attempted to burgle an ATM kiosk in their jurisdiction. The accused, C Kathiresan (50) of Zameen Perumbakkam, was nabbed with the help of CCTV footage.
The incident happened at the e-corner of SBI Bank in Saidapet Bazaar branch. Kathiresan broke open a passbook printing kiosk mistaking it for an ATM. The surveillance staff at the Mumbai control room monitored the suspicious movements of the man and alerted the local police station. However, the accused fled the spot before police could arrive at the spot.
Based on a complaint by the branch manager, police registered a case and secured Kathiresan on Friday. He was remanded in judicial custody.
