72 year old arrested over downloading child pornography

The accused, P Mohan of Choolaimedu, retired from Repco Bank and lends money for a living. While his wards are settled abroad, Mohan lives with his wife, also a former Repco Bank employee, in their own building in Choolaimedu, where he has rented out five portions.

The police said that he would often call the girls staying in one of the portions on the pretext of helping his wife and forced them to watch child pornography on his iPad.

The girls, who were unable to face the harassment, approached the all-women police station at Thousand Lights and a case was registered. Mohan was called for an investigation and after police confirmed that he had child pornography on his iPad, he was booked under Sections 354A (iii) (Sexual harassment), 292A (exhibiting obscene photos), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and Section 15 of Pocso Act and remanded him in judicial custody on Tuesday. The iPad was also seized from him. The police are probing if he had made any physical advances towards the victims.

H Jayalakshmi, Deputy Commissioner (Crime Against Women and Children), when contacted, confirmed the arrest and added that they have also been raiding the cybercafes across the city to crack the networks that circulate child pornography.
