    Truck gutted in Nagalkeni, fire breaks out in factory, none hurt

    A truck and a godown of a leather factory went up in flames in separate incidents in Chengalpattu district on Monday. There were no casualties.

    A foam-filled truck from Pune was heading towards a factory in Abdul Kalam Road in Nagalkeni near Chromepet when it came in contact with an overhead live EB cable.


    It caused a spark from which the truck caught fire. The driver and the cleaner jumped off the vehicle and informed the police and fire and rescue team. Two rescue teams from Tambaram arrived at the spot and doused the fire after an hour. Police said that foam was fully gutted while the truck was half burnt. The Shankar Nagar police have registered a case and in investigation is under way.


    In the second incident, a leather factory in Muthamizh Nagar near Vandalur caught fire on Monday morning. According to the police, the factory staff noticed smoke from the storeroom and tried to douse the fire using a fire extinguisher, but failed. They then called up the fire and rescue control. Two teams from Tambram and Maraimalai Nagar rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. There were 15 workers inside the factory at the time and nobody was injured, said the police. The Vandalur Otteri police have registered a case.
