Docs stress on early intervention to tackle cancer
Cancer Institute (WIA) in Adyar organised the Dr S Krishnamurthi Centenary Memorial Oration at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University on Saturday. The oration was delivered by Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist, World Health Organisation on ‘Cancer in India: Challenges and Opportunities’.

Doctors from the Adyar Cancer Institute said that the oration emphasised on the rising incidence of cancer and lifestyle risk factors that are being noticed among cancer patients these days.
Delivering the oration on Cancer in India, Dr Soumya Swaminathan stressed on the need of early detection of cancer and its prevention. She also emphasised on preventing cervical cancer and vaccination to avoid the riskof cervical cancer. Dr Soumya also stated that the lifestyle shift amongst the current generation has also led to an increased risk of varioustypes of cancer.
Dr V Shanta, chairperson of the Adyar Cancer Institute, Dr Hemant Raj, vice chairman of the Adyar Cancer institute and Dr Sudha Seshayyan, Vice Chancellor, the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University also presided overthe function.
