Upcycling: Civic body earns Rs 22,345 through swap shop
The Greater Chennai Corporation has earned Rs 22,345 by selling reusable items at the swap shop conducted for two days in Besant Nagar.

According to the Corporation, more than 10,000 persons visited the swap shop and donated around 22,000 reusable items. “Visitors bought more than 15,000 items at the shop. From this sale, the civic body had earned Rs 22,345,” said a statement from the civic body.
On Monday, Corporation Commissioner G Prakash visited the swap shop and handed over Swachh Bharat identity cards to the volunteers who donated reusable items. The swap shop was held in Adyar zone at TNHB community hall in Besant Nagar.
“The swap shop has garnered good support from the citizens. We will conduct swap shops during festival seasons, where people can donate their used items and buy reusable items donated by others,” Prakash said.
Interestingly, the civic body sold an old refrigerator for Rs 200 and a small cycle was sold at Rs 50. A sofa set was sold for Rs. 100. At the swap shops, old books, toys, bags, shoes, dresses and others were sold for Rs 10. Earlier, the residents were asked to drop their reusable old items at all the ward offices in Adyar zone.
