70-foot Tiruvalluvar sand sculpture to grace Mahabs
Visitors to Mamallapuram will be treated to an artistic attraction — apart from the monuments there — this Pongal holidays.
Chennai
Students of Government College of Architecture and Sculpture, Mamallapuram are involved in making a 70-foot-long sand sculpture of Tiruvalluvar, which will be thrown open to visitors for three days from Thursday. January 16 is observed as Tiruvalluvar Day by the state government.
The sculpture will feature Tiruvalluvar in his typical sitting posture with palm leaf manuscripts in one hand and a reed pen on the other hand. A couplet with its explanation in drawings are being drawn at the bottom, said representatives of Mallai Thamizh Sangam, who have been a part of this initiative.
In 2019, the students had made a 133-ft-long sand sculpture of Tiruvalluvar in standing posture.
