    4 robbed of 6.5 sovereigns, phone, Rs 6,000 in cash on Friday night

    At least four robberies were reported at different parts in the city on Friday night in which victims lost 6.5 sovereigns, a mobile phone and Rs 6,000 in cash. The assailants are yet to be identified.

    Beautician S Thamizhselvi (29) who lives in Choolaipallam was returning home on a moped with her sister on Friday night, when two men on a bike intercepted them near Nesapakkam,Erikkarai.


    They robbed the women of five sovereigns and fled the spot. Based on Thamizhselvi's complaint, the MGR Nagar police registered a case.


    In the second incident, R Ezhilarasi of Palavedu near Avadi, was walking home via Outer Ring Road on Friday night, when two men on a bike approached her and one of them tried to snatch her five sovereign chain. She raised an alarm, but they escaped with a part of the chain weighing about 1.5 sovereigns.


    The Muthapudupet police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects.


    In another incident, a 46-year-old man was robbed of his mobile phone and Rs 2,500 in cash at knifepoint by a three men on Friday night.


    K Ganesan (46) of Egmore, who works as a temporary car driver in the Railways, was intercepted by three men on a scooter at Ritherdon road-Poonamallee High Road junction. They attacked him and robbed him at knifepoint. Ganesan, who got treated at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital as outpatient, later lodged a complaint at the Vepery police station.


    In the last incident, an autorickshaw passenger was robbed of Rs 3,500 by three men in Koyambedu .


    The victim Lakshmanan (18) of Salem, had returned to Chennai on Friday night after Pongal celebrations and boarded an autorickshaw to Tiruporur.


    While the auto was on its way, it was intercepted by a three men who robbed Lakshmanan. The Koyambedu police areinvestigating the case.
