92 Corpn officials receive awards for Smart City projects
The Greater Chennai Corporation officials, who had implemented Smart City projects such as pedestrian plaza in T Nagar and cycle sharing received awards during Republic Day event held at the Ripon building on Sunday.

G Prakash, Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation, distributed the awards to the concerned officials after hoisting the tricolour flag. As many as 30 projects, which also includes the project of creating micro composting centres and rainwater harvesting received the awards from Prakash. Also, 92 officials and employees of the civic body received the certificates for effectively implementing the city Corporation projects. The list of officials, who had received awards included, chief engineers L Nandakumar, N Mahesan, P Duraisamy and others.
Meanwhile, a Corporation press statement said that the Commissioner had handed over loan assistance amounting to Rs 20 Lakh to four newly founded women’s self-help groups (SHG). Of the four self-help groups, Jai Sairam Women’s Self-Help Group alone received Rs 10 Lakh. The beneficiary groups could utilise the amount without any bank interest.
In a similar event held at the headquarters of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metro Water), managing director TN Hariharan had distributed certificates to as many 322 Metro Water officials and employees. The certificates were given for implementing sewage treatment plant project and other projects.
Awards were also given for the employees, who had made water supply arrangements during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping to the city.
