2 teens, another held for snatching phones
A 19-year-old youth who robbed a mobile phone worth Rs 25,000 from a pedestrian at knifepoint near Mint Street was arrested by the Seven Wells police. The accused, R Thamizharasan of Wall Tax Road, was remanded in judicial custody on Friday after the stolen phone was retrieved from him.

The incident happened on Thursday night when the victim, C Ilaiyaraja (37) of Kondithope, was returning home through Saravanan Street. He was intercepted by Thamizharasan, who threatened him at knifepoint and robbed him of the phone. Based on his complaint, the Seven Wells police registered a case and secured the suspect with the help of CCTV footage. Similarly, the Tiruvanmiyur police arrested a 26-year-old man for snatching phone from an MTC commuter. The accused, K Charlin of Chittoor, snatched the phone from one J Praveen (23) of Mylapore when the latter boarded an MTC bus at Jayanthi theatre signal at Tiruvanmiyur on Wednesday night. Charlin who ran behind the bus as if to board snatched Praveen’s phone and fled the spot. The Tiruvanmiyur police registered a case, secured the suspect and remanded him in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the Foreshore Estate police arrested J Saravanankumar (21) of Sholinganallur for snatching two mobile phones from pedestrians. The victims were working as domestic workers at government officials’ houses in RA Puram. The accused monitored these workers and snatched their phones. Based on their complaint, police registered a case and nabbed the accused. He was remanded in judicial custody.
Teen held for assault, robbery of shop owner
Ayanavaram police have arrested a 19-year-old boy for attacking a grocery shop owner and robbing him. The accused, Alavandhan alias Madhvan of Otteri, was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday while a hunt has been launched for his accomplices. The incident happened on January 23 when the victim, Vijayasekar of Ayanavaram, was on his way to Ayanavaram bus depot to board a bus to Koyambedu where he runs the shop. He was intercepted on KH Road junction around 3 am by a bike-borne trio, who snatched his phone and demanded money from him. When Vijayasekar said he did not have cash, they slit his cheek with a knife, snatched his shop keys and cash and fled from the spot.
