MTC tech staff banned from using mobile phones on duty
After banning the drivers and conductors from using mobile phones on duty, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has extended the ban to the technical staffs working in bus depots and workshops to avoid accidents and ensure the quality of work.

In a circular issued last week, MTC managing director G Ganesan said that the technical staff should avoid using mobile phones while on duty. “If the technical staff are found to be using mobile phones during the duty time at the depots and workshops, strict action would be taken against them,” the circular warned.
He said that the use of mobile phones leads to distraction at the workplace, which causes accidents and also results in delay and affect the standard of work.
The MTC had banned the drivers and conductors from using mobile phones while driving, a traffic violation categorised as one of the five major offences in 2014 by a Supreme Court-appointed committee on road safety. An MTC official said that about 400 drivers and conductors faced actions for using the phone on duty.
