    Two men promise TNSCB quarters, cheat 96 people

    The Taramani police arrested two men for allegedly cheating 96 persons to the tune of Rs 26 lakh on the promise of getting them houses at Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) quarters constructed at Sholinganallur and issuing fake allotment certificates to them.

    The Taramani police arrested two men for allegedly cheating 96 persons to the tune of Rs 26 lakh on the promise of getting them houses at Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) quarters constructed at Sholinganallur and issuing fake allotment certificates to them.


    The incident happened in 2016 after the flooding of the city. The Central Crime Branch had already secured a few suspects, including main accused Jagadeesan, the Taramani police arrested A Samuel (34) of Tambaram and A Srinivasan (51) of Tambaram on Sunday based on a complaint filed by one Subramani.


    The police said that Samuel was arrested by the CCB, but he did not reveal the involvement of Srinivasan, a Chennai Corporation staff, in the racket. While Srinivasan promised to return the sum and failed to do so, Subramani filed a petition at the city police commissionerate.


    As per Commissioner AK Viswanathan’s order, the Taramani police registered a case and nabbed the duo. The fake allotment orders in their possession were also seized. “The duo collected Rs 70,000 from about 96 residents of Kanagam in Taramani and cheated them,” said inspector Salairam Sakthivel.
