The investigation revealed that the accused was dejected over a failed relationship and was waiting with the bottle filled with fuel to attack his girlfriend.

Venkatesan was in a relationship with a college student from his neighbourhood. Since they often quarrelled, the girl decided to end the relationship and asked Venkatesan to come to the police booth on Tiruvalluvar Salai to part ways amicably.

“The girl’s plan was to visit the Teynampet police station and part ways mutually by giving it in writing in front of the police personnel. But Venkatesan came prepared to attack the girl. When she did not turn up, he became frustrated, lit the bottle and threw it at the police booth,” the police said. When it blasted with a huge sound, shocked passers-by alerted the police and he was secured. Further investigation is on to ascertain whether Venkatesan is a previous offender. “He will be remanded to judicial custody,” the police added.
