Now, watch films, serials while on Metro Rail
State Industries Minister MC Sampath on Friday launched in-train entertainment system ‘SugarBox’ and electric scooter facilities for the commuters of Chennai Metro Rail.
Chennai
The SugarBox entertainment facility was launched in the green line – Central to St Thomas Mount and Airport sections – initially. It would be expanded to the Blue line – Washermenpet to Airport – shortly.
At the station, the commuters could make use of this facility by installing the SugarBox app in their smart phones. Using the app, the commuters could download movies and serials in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi free of cost, an official release said.
With various feeder services introduced by the Metro Rail, the number of people using the services is going up steadily. In an addition to the feeder service, the Metro has introduced electric scooter rental service through Flyy.
“The commuters who want to rent the scooter have to simply download the Flyy app in their phones and provide required information. They should also attach their photo. They could ride the scooter using the QR code generated in it. They won’t require a key,” the statement said.
The commuters must pay Rs 5 for a ride and then would be charged Rs 1 per minute. The rental facility was launched in Guindy, Alandur, Nandanam and St Thomas Mount stations, it said, adding that the service would soon be extended to other stations as well.
Meanwhile, the CMRL appealed to landowners to show interest in giving lands for the second phase of Metro Rail through simple private negotiations. It cited the case of Good Shepherd Convent School at Nungambakkam.
For the phase 2, the Metro required to acquire 117.12 hectares. The officials in charge have been acquiring the required land through private negotiations committee. The Good Shepherd Convent has given 17,495 square feet for the Sterling Metro Station in the corridor 3 of the phase 2 project. Metro Rail has asked the landowners to follow suit and give their land through private negotiations instead of following the lengthy legal proceedings under LandAcquisition Act.
