“Wi-Fi hotspot devices are placed at eight locations inside the park and the visitors can enjoy the internet free of cost,” said a press release from the Corporation.

The visitors can use the service for 45 minutes every day and the service will be available round-the-clock. They can enjoy the connectivity at a speed of 20 Mb per second. Up to 300 visitors can connect their mobile phones to each Wi-Fi hotspot device simultaneously. They can connect their mobile phones or other devices with the service by keying in one-time passwords generated while sending connection request.

During an event held at the park on Friday, Corporation Commissioner G Prakash launched the free service that was installed using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. The service is being provided by ACT Fibernet, the press release from the civic body added.

A Corporation official said that free Wi-Fi connections would be provided at Natesan Park in T Nagar, Tower Park in Anna Nagar, Sivan Park in KK Nagar and Indira Nagar Park in Adyar. The civic body maintains 669 parks across the city. The civic body along with ACT Fibernet had already installed Wi-Fi devises at Pedestrian Plaza in T Nagar.

While inaugurating the Plaza, the Chennai Corporation had said that the free Wi-Fi connection would be provided to cover entire T Nagar under Smart City Mission. The civic body had selected 7 sq km of T Nagar for area-based development (ABD), with Panagal Park as the centre point. Apart from the Wi-Fi connection, the civic body has invited bidders to create an optic fibre network connection to the entire city and improve internet connection at Corporation offices, e-seva centres and others.
