The police tracked him down while were chasing a lead collected from CCTV footage in connection with a Rs 14.65 lakh-theft from a Tasmac shop on RK Mutt Road on February 24.

Explaining his modus operandi, the police said that Kuberan had been looting Tasmac shops since 2013.

“He never carried his mobile phone while committing a crime. A day before the planned robbery, he would switch it off. He would avoid CCTV cameras and even turn the cameras to the other side. He would sleep near the Tasmac shop like a drunkard and carry out the crime after 1 am, wearing a monkey cap after all the staff have gone home,” the police said.

In the latest case, police, however, tracked him using CCTV footage. Though he had dodged CCTV cameras near the Tasmac shop, the police managed to track the suspect’s route to Chennai Central Station bus stop and later to an EMU station.

His image, travelling with a yellow bag, was tracked even at Tiruvallur station and later he was found travelling in a share auto without his monkey cap.

The police, after tracing his address to Tiruvallur, found that he was a chef in Vellore at his brother’srestaurant.

On Friday morning, he was nabbed from the restaurant, the police said.
