Its population is also gradually increasing as many IT employees are choosing the area for residence. With the increasing population, civic issues have also been rising in the area. Being one of the busiest roads in Perungalathur, it has become difficult for road users as two-wheelers and autorickshaws are parked on both sides of the road, making the carriageway narrow.

“Besides the illegal parking, shops encroaching the road has made the situation worse. There is a community hall, Vinayagar temple, a few supermarkets, a school, and a few banks on the streets. So the area is busy from early morning till night,” said Karthikeyan, a local resident.

Residents of New Perungalathur said that those visiting the temple and the nearby shops park their two-wheelers on the road, disturbing the flow of traffic.

“The community hall also does not have proper parking area. Since the vehicles from GST Road enter Perungalathur via Kalaignar High Road, there is no space for the vehicles to move or for the pedestrians. A few accidents were also reported in the area,” said Sovin Joel, another resident.

During an emergency, even an ambulance would take at least 20 minutes to pass the stretch of the road, he pointed out. “The railway level crossing is another headache for us as it is opened once or twice in an hour,” he added.

The residents urged the police and Perungalathur municipality to take steps to stop the illegal parking and provide a hassle-free journey for them.

When contacted, Perungalathur Town Panchayat Executive Officer said, “I will look into the issue and take all steps to stop the illegal park
