Usually, 57 international flights and 196 domestic flights land and take off from Chennai airport daily. However, all 57 international flights have been grounded in the wake of the coronavirus threat.

Also, with many important cities facing lockdown and commercial activities taking a beating, inter-city travel too has come down drastically. Almost over 100 domestic flights operating from Chennai airport got cancelled on Sunday. The flights that operated also reported fewer passengers.

This has resulted in the airport, which handles about 30,000 passengers daily and bustles with activity, wearing a deserted look. The duty-free shops and eateries inside the airport too have been shut for want of business. Only the security personnel and the maintenance staff were present.
