Cops take gana route to fight deadly virus
Apart from being on the roads to prevent people from stepping out to curb the spread of COVID-19, police have been adopting different ways to create awareness among the public about the need to stay indoors.
Chennai
The latest in the list is a gana song highlighting the hard work of the government, including the doctors
and police, to keep the virus at bay.
Produced by the personnel of Pulianthope police district, the 5.3-minute long song has been penned and sung by popular singer ‘Gana’ Bala and has music scored by Sabesh Solomon.
The song asks everyone to be careful and not to spread rumours about the virus. Lamenting that public is not taking the prohibitory orders seriously it requests people to obey the government directives and stay indoors.
Gana Bala had earlier too sung for many similar initiatives by the city police.
Meanwhile, women cops from Crime against Women and Children wing led by Deputy Commissioner H Jayalakshmi on Thursday staged a demo on hand washing and social distancing on Kamarajar Salai.
Yellow ‘tilak’ for violator vehicles
Triplicane police have adopted a novel method to deter motorists from unnecessarily roaming on the roads by giving the vehicles a yellow tilak as a sign of warning. Since Triplicane has some of the important hospitals both doctors and patients commute to these places daily. However, some misuse this permission, said police. “First we issue a warning. If spotted again, we leave them with a yellow tilak on the vehicle. We also tell them the next time they are on the road, their vehicle would be seized,” said Inspector Seetharaman. Meanwhile, a few police stations have deployed drones for surveillance. This is to help police know if people have gathered in some place.
