In addition to taking care of the food and shelter camp set up on a private college premise for 400odd migrant workers, the Home Guards have so far procured and handed over 40,000 masks to the city police for the utilisation for the police force with the help of Jain International Trade Organisation.
“We are also distributing water, biscuits and masks through the company commanders daily in different parts of the city,” noted Sanjay Bhansali Area Commander, Chennai North, Tamil Nadu Home Guards.
“The Koyambedu vegetable market, the hub of vegetables and fruits for Chennai, is manned and managed by 50 Home Guard volunteers from 4 am daily. The crowd regulation and social distancing at all the ration shops across Chennai is also taken care of by our teams,” said Sanjay Bhansali.
The Home Guards are also distributing Kabasura Kudineer, procured from IMPCOPS, to 500 people daily.
“The herbal drink and biscuits were distributed to the stranded public and corporation workers two days ago at Broadway Bus Stand near High Court and Central Station,” he claimed.
Food packets are also being provided to 150 to 200 poor people who visit the camp set up
on the college premises daily. Likewise, 200 food packets are being distributed among Kannagi Nagar slum clearance board families off OMR every day since the lockdown began.
In addition to all these works, carried out directly, Home Guards are helping in the distribution of food packets prepared by various societies and are also in the systematic distribution of groceries to the needy.
