As per the instruction of the civic body headquarters, the zonal officials should furnish the details of containment areas in their zones and number of the workers deployed in the containment areas.

“The senior officials are collecting the details of the workers to provide personnel protection equipment to them. The frontline workers also include doctors and other officials in the containment zones,” a Chennai Corporation source said.

Apart from seeking details of workers posted in containment areas, the civic body has directed the zonal officials to furnish the details of conservancy workers, including NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission) workers and private contract workers. Also, the zonal officials should send a report on the present health condition of the conservancy workers, including COVID-19 symptoms, and whether they have any history of hypertension, diabetes and TB.

The source said at least more than two workers engaged in the door-to-door survey have been infected.

“Also, more than 10 conservancy workers across the city are infected. Majority of such cases are reported in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar. As the government has instructed the civic body to provide zinc, vitamin C and Kabasura kudineer to the workers, details provided by the zonal officials will help the higher officials in procuring the tablets,” the source added.
