In their earlier order, Judicial member Justice K Ramakrishnan and expert member Saibal Dasgupta had directed the TNPCB to submit the present status on whether effluent treatment plants (ETP) or sewage treatment plants (STP) have been established by SIDCO as it had proposed in 2016. The tribunal also asked SIDCO to submit a report regarding how the sewage generated was being disposed of.

When the matter came for hearing through, the counsel appearing for TNPCB asked for one-month time for filing the report.

Recording the submissions, the bench granted the time as sought. “SIDCO is directed to file the present status or SIDCO manager shall appear before the tribunal.”

The issue pertains to a complaint filed by an organisation, Voice of Nature, seeking permanent injunction restraining the Tamil Nadu government from any manner in granting any approval, authorisation or consent to discharge sewage effluents in the channel connecting to the Thannerkulam lake.
