Red sanders worth Rs 35L in air parcel to Malaysia
Customs officials at Chennai airport foiled an attempt to smuggle red sanders worth Rs 35 lakh inside a wooden consignment box labelled as stainless steel oil lamps.
Chennai
While checking the parcels that were about to be taken on a cargo flight to Malaysia on Friday, Customs officials noticed a wooden box labelled as stainless steel oil lamps. On suspicion, they broke-open the box and found red sanders weighing about 1.05 kg, estimated to be worth Rs 35 lakh, wrapped in plastic cover.
When they checked the details of the sender, the mobile phone number and the address were found to be fake. On further investigation, officials found that a courier agency from Delhi had sent the package. The officials are now trying to identify the Delhi man behind the smuggling bid. This is the third time Customs have stopped smuggling bids during the lockdown period.
