A 37-year-old woman was murdered by her nephew since she allegedly questioned his illicit relationship. The accused was nabbed overnight.
Chennai
The deceased Gunasundari was the wife of Saravanan, a resident of Parimalam Nagar in Puzhal, whereas the accused Ganesan (31), son of Gunasundari's elder brother, lived in a rented house at Balaji Nagar in Kolathur. Gunasundari, who went to Ganesan's house on Friday, was found dead in a pool of blood. On information, Kolathur police retrieved her body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
A case was registered and preliminary inquiries revealed that Ganesan murdered Gunasundari as she opposed his relationship with his aunt Deepa (wife of Gunasundari's younger brother). A hunt was launched for Ganesan by a team led by Kolathur Inspector M Shanmugavelan and the suspect was secured from his hideout in an overnight search operation.
Police said Ganesan, who worked as a painter, was living alone after his wife eloped with her boyfriend in 2017. Meanwhile, Gunasundari's younger brother Logu died of heart ailment six months ago after which Ganesan developed a relationship with her and made her stay with him.
Gunasundari, who took care of Ganesan's needs ever since his wife's separation, was unable to digest his relationship with Deepa and often fought with them.
On Friday too, Gunasundari went to Ganesan's house to convince both but after she allegedly attacked Deepa, an angry Ganesan stabbed her with a kitchen knife repeatedly, killing her on the spot.
Police booked Ganesan for murder and remanded him in judicial custody on Saturday.
