On May 18, a four-member gang barged into a house on 17th West Cross street in MKB Nagar and robbed a mother-daughter duo of their jewels at knife-point. Based on their complaint, MKB Nagar police registered a case. However, as the victims gave contradictory responses, the police grilled them further and came to know that the four-member gang came looking for Ganesan.
On close examination of the CCTV footage, they realised that one of the four men was ‘Soozhchi’ Suresh, who was released from prison six months ago. Following this, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner Harikumar was formed under the supervision of Pulianthope Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Khanna.
One of the four-member gang had shared a phone number with the women to inform him when Ganesan came there. The police team located the suspect with mobile phone tower and secured one Syed Yamin Basha. Based on his inputs, Suresh was also nabbed.
According to the police, Suresh has an ongoing rivalry with Ganesan’s leader Kathiravan, son former don Chera. Investigation revealed that Suresh and Basha, along with Arunpandian and ‘Vadai’ Selvam, hatched a plan to eliminate both Kathiravan and Ganesan in revenge for murdering Suresh’s uncle Ilango and brother Palani a few years ago. As he was hatching a plan to murder Kathiravan and Ganesan, the Puzhal police arrested Suresh in possession of country bombs. He was released from the prison about six months ago, and formed a gang after coming out. With the Kathiravan’s whereabouts remaining unknown, they decided to eliminate Ganesan first, officials said.
“The gang gathered information that he often visits the woman’s house and reached the place to murder him. But Ganesan was not there. So they escaped with their jewels. The jewels and a two-wheeler were seized from them,” said Assistant Commissioner Harikumar.
A hunt has been launched Suresh’s accomplices Arunpandian and Selvam, and the police team is also on the lookout for Ganesan.
