Assaulted man to get damages from 3 cops
Based on a one-year-old order from the State Human Rights Commission to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to an AIADMK worker, TS Pasupathy of Virugambakkam, for foisting of cases and attacking him.
Chennai
The Home Department has issued an order to pay the amount to the complainant and directed the State police chief to deduct Rs 1 lakh from the police inspector and Rs 50,000 each from the sub-inspector and a constable involved.
The incident happened more than six years ago and after fighting the case for five years Pasupathy received a favourable order last year.
As per the Home Department order issued last week, Pasupathy will be paid the amount by the department, and Rs 1 lakh will be recovered from the salary of inspector Jayaraj, and Rs 50,000 each from sub-inspector A Vijyapandian and constable S Kannan. The Home Department has also asked the DGP to initiate departmental action against the three policemen, who were accused of foisting the case.
Pasupathy, who went to Tiruchy containment area police station to sign as per his bail conditions in November 2014, was attacked by Jayaraj and the two others, in mufti, to settle their score.
Policemen were allegedly angry because Pasupathy surrendered in the court in connection with cases registered against him by Virugambakkam police and got bail.
