Chennai
It was the residents in Mummoorthy Nagar in Chromepet who noticed a few stray dogs fighting and dragging something. When they went closer, they found that it was a child’s body. Soon they drove the dogs away and informed the Chromepet police, who soon arrived at the spot and retrieved the body. Police said the baby was born only a few hours ago.
The body was sent to the Chromepet government hospital and the police said that they were unable to identify whether the baby was male or female. “It will only be known after the post-mortem report as the body is badly mutilated,” they said.
The police have registered a case and are investigating whether the baby was killed and thrown in the lakebed or it died after being attacked by dogs. Police said the investigation is on and soon the person behind the crime will get arrested.
Decomposed foetus found on road
A five-month-old foetus was found on the road in Perambur, shocking passers-by on Wednesday afternoon.
The police suspect that the foetus wrapped in a plastic cover and dumped in the garbage bin on Raghavan Salai could have been pulled by the dog and left on the road.
After passers-by alerted the police control room, a team from Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police rushed to the spot and retrieved it and sent it to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Officials said they could only confirm it was a male child as dogs had mauled the already decomposed body.
As there are no hospitals nearby, the police are investigating whether the child was killed in an illegal abortion.
